The Faroe Islands are an island group under the sovereignity of the Kingdom of Denmark which are situated between the Norwegian Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Since 1948 the islands are mostly self-governing, while Denmark is responsible for defense, justice, police and foreign affairs.
